A certified true copy of your driving license, for lease or rental purposes, is a duplicate of your original license that a licensed UAE legal professional has examined against the original and certified as accurate. Leasing companies keep this on file as part of the agreement and driver verification record.

It is different from the copy a rental desk might scan at pickup. A certified copy carries a formal certification endorsement, which some leasing companies specifically require for longer-term or higher-value agreements.

## Certified Copies for Leasing and Rental Companies

Many leasing and rental companies in Dubai ask for a certified true copy of driving license for car lease agreements before handing over a vehicle. This page covers what to expect and how we handle it.

## Who Typically Needs This

- Individuals signing a long-term personal car lease agreement
- Companies leasing vehicles for staff, where the leasing company requires each driver’s certified license copy
- Renters entering longer rental terms for luxury or higher-value vehicles
- Drivers renewing or extending an existing lease where updated documents are requested
- Anyone whose leasing company’s compliance file requires certified rather than plain copies

## Who Can Attend, and Representative Rules

The license holder should attend in person with the original driving license so the certifying professional can examine it directly. For corporate leases, this applies to each individual driver, not just the company representative signing the agreement.

Where a driver genuinely cannot attend, a representative may be able to bring the original document with a power of attorney or written authorization.

## How It Works

1. Contact us with the lease or rental company’s document requirements.
2. Bring the original driving license and ID to the appointment.
3. The document is examined and certified in house by one of our own licensed lawyers or legal consultants.
4. Collect your certified true copy.
5. Submit it to the leasing or rental company to complete your file.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- Assuming the rental desk’s own photocopy will satisfy a leasing company’s compliance requirement
- Not bringing the original license, which prevents certification on the day
- Missing that a corporate lease may require a certified copy per driver, not per company
- Leaving the request until the scheduled handover date
- Not checking whether the leasing company needs the license alongside a certified Emirates ID copy

## Real Situations This Covers

A resident signs a two-year personal lease on a new vehicle, and the leasing company’s onboarding checklist requires a certified true copy of the driving license before keys are released.

A logistics company leases five vans for its delivery team, and the leasing company asks for a certified license copy for each named driver on the fleet.

A visitor extends a short-term rental into a longer-term agreement, and the rental company upgrades its documentation requirement to include a certified copy.

## How This Differs From General Driving License Certification

[Our main Certified True Copy of Driving License page](https://certifiedtruecopydubai.ae/certified-true-copy-of-driving-license/) covers certification for any purpose. This page focuses on what leasing and rental companies specifically ask for, including corporate fleets where several drivers each need their own certified copy.

Our plain-language guide explains how these differ.

## What to Bring

- Original UAE or foreign driving license
- Passport or Emirates ID for identity verification
- Lease or rental company’s document request or quotation reference, if available
- Trade license details, if a company is taking the lease on an employee’s behalf
- Power of attorney, if a representative is attending instead of the driver
